You’re Unbelievable! We Celebrate Certified Nursing Assistants this week
This year the NAHCA has chosen the theme “We’re Unbelievable” for CNA week. This theme highlights the range of services and the depth of compassion all of you bring to your patients every day, while fearlessly handling anything that’s thrown at you.
CNA Week 2026 runs from June 11 – June 17. A full week dedicated to recognizing the nearly 1.5 million CNAs across the United States who show up, day after day, as the backbone of our healthcare system.
What “We’re Unbelievable” Really Means
Think about what a CNA does in a single shift. You measure vital signs, assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, all while preserving their dignity through every interaction. You help people eat, move safely, reposition in bed, and transfer from bed to wheelchair. This all takes mental and physical strength! You change dressings, monitor for changes in condition, and communicate critical observations to the nursing team. And while you are doing all of that, you are also being a steady, calming, human presence for someone who may be frightened, lonely, or in pain.
All of that in one shift. That is not just a job. That is truly unbelievable.
CNAs are often the first to notice when something is off with a patient. A subtle change in behavior, an off day with eating, a new complaint of pain. You catch these things because you are the ones spending the most direct, hands-on time with residents and patients. That vigilance saves lives. It also makes CNAs an irreplaceable link between patients and the broader care team, translating what patients feel and experience into information that nurses and physicians can act on.
The Heart Behind the Work: Compassion and Dedication
No one becomes a CNA for an easy road. The work is physically demanding, emotionally deep, and relentless. Yet CNAs bring an extraordinary level of compassion to it every single day.
Patients in long-term care, rehabilitation, and home health settings often face some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. They may be adjusting to a new diagnosis, recovering from surgery, managing a chronic illness, or navigating the final chapter of life. CNAs meet them there; with patience, with kindness, and with consistency. That human connection is not a bonus feature of the job. It is the job.
The trust a patient places in their CAN, allowing someone to help them bathe, dress, and perform the most personal tasks of daily living, is profound. CNAs honor that trust every day, approaching each interaction with respect and dignity. That kind of care cannot be automated or outsourced. It comes from people who genuinely care, and CNAs are those people.
The Numbers Behind the Workforce
The scale of the CNA profession is as impressive as the work itself. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently more than 1.5 million CNA positions in the United States, with more than 216,000 job openings expected each year as the demand for care continues to grow. Employment in the field is projected to grow steadily through 2034, driven by an aging population and rising rates of chronic illness.
CNAs work across a wide range of settings, including:
- Skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes, where CNAs make up more than one-third of the total workforce
- Assisted living communities, providing support for seniors who need help with daily activities while maintaining their independence
- Hospitals and rehabilitation centers, assisting with patient recovery and mobility
- Home health agencies, delivering care directly in patients’ homes, one of the fastest-growing areas of the profession
That range is itself a testament to how essential CNAs are. Wherever people need hands-on care, CNAs are there.
CNAs: The Foundation of the Healthcare System
It is easy to think of CNAs as support staff, but the reality is far bigger than that. CNAs are the frontline of the entire care continuum. Nurses and physicians depend on them to deliver the consistent, direct care that keeps patients safe, comfortable, and connected to their treatment plans. Without CNAs, the healthcare system as we know it could not function.
Beyond their daily duties, CNAs contribute to better patient outcomes by promoting mobility and preventing complications like pressure injuries and muscle loss. They support infection control by maintaining clean, sanitary environments. They provide emotional support that reduces patient anxiety and loneliness — factors that have measurable effects on recovery and quality of life.
Many CNAs also go on to advance into nursing and other healthcare roles, carrying their frontline experience with them. In this way, CNAs do not just support the healthcare system today, they are actively building the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Thank You, CNAs
From June 11 to June 17, 2026, we pause to say what should be said every single day: thank you. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for caring. Thank you for doing the hard, beautiful, unbelievable work that you do.
You are not just part of the healthcare system. You are its heartbeat.
NOW Insurance Supports CNAs
While you are out there giving your heart and soul to patients, we work behind the scenes to provide you peace of mind and career protection. NOW Insurance provides Professional Liability Insurance for CNAs. Most CNAs don’t think to get their own insurance policy, but there are several reasons why it’s a good idea. Your employer’s policy is in place to protect them. A policy purchased by you in your name will work on your behalf.
Professional liability insurance steps in when you make a mistake at work, or even when you’ve done nothing wrong and a patient or patient’s family member makes an allegation. NOW Insurance will fight for you and pay for legal fees and defense costs.
CNAs can get a policy for under $5 a month in under 5 minutes with our easy online application. Got questions? Call or text us with questions about the policy: 888-585-2075.
Happy CNA Week. You are, without question, unbelievable.
